Headteacher's Blog 2016
A very warm welcome from
At Victoria Infant and Nursery School we have created a high quality learning environment in which every child has the opportunity to reach their true potential. We want our children to become powerful learners, to stretch their learning muscles and to become effective members of a changing society and the wider world.
We work hard to provide a caring, safe and secure environment where our children make outstanding progress. We nourish and nurture our children to ensure that they are ready to learn.
We effectively work with our partners and carers to ensure that the children are at the heart of all that we do.
As a National Teaching School we are privileged to work very closely with other schools and lead the way forward through providing high quality courses for teachers, training our next generation of Teachers, offering support to schools and participating in research opportunities to ensure the best education for the youngsters in West Cumbria.
Welcome back to all our children and to our new starters. I am delighted to especially welcome our two year old starters to Victoria. The new two year old extension is finished and we are able to offer morning and afternoon places for our 2year old and 3year old Nursery. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our parents for their continued support with your child's learning, uniform, attendance and punctuality it really helps support your child in everyway.
It has been a delight to see all the children settle so well and most of all be very happy at school.
Since September the teachers have been working hard with the children to improve their maths skills. All pupils in Key Stage One, use 'Mathletics' and have a personal login which can be used from home. Children are working hard to develop their speed and fluency with timetables, addition and subtraction. We have introduced a 'Mathlete' for every class. This award goes to the pupil who has made the most progress. Keep up your hard work!
This year we have introduced Rising Stars- skills builders to support the children with their writing skills. The children are taught grammar, spelling, punctuation and phonics skills to help support their writing skills. Through the 'power of reading' the children can enhance their experiences to help them create a variety of different styles of writing.
We are focusing on daily guided reading and all the children will take part in this everyday. 'Reading to learn, Learning to read'. Reading is an essential skill and supports all the other areas of the curriculum.
I am looking forward to working in partnership with all parents/ carers and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to come into school.
